Trip to Uganda-November 2011
We spent the first two weeks of November in Uganda with volunteers and members of our Board of Directors. We visited eleven schools, built shelving to prepare schools for the arrival of donated books, met with headmasters, visited and read with students, and did presentations for community groups regarding health, education, literacy, employment, and finance.
We also checked in on schools that we have established libraries for in the past. The headmasters, teachers, and students reported that the students use the books on a daily basis, and are very excited about and engaged in reading. We were told that literacy rates at the schools have increased dramatically since receiving the books last year.
Car Show
On September 10, 2011 we had our first Car Show fundraiser, held in conjunction with the Granite Rocks Arts Festival in South Salt Lake. There was prizes, music, food, and fun for the entire family. It was a big success, and we received wonderful support from the community. Thank you to both those who participated and those who volunteered to make it happen!

3,900 Pounds of Books Shipped From Utah to Uganda
On July 26, 2011, 3,900 pounds of books were picked up from our warehouse in Salt Lake City, Utah, and are on their way to Uganda. The shipment will take about 90 days to arrive in Kampala, the capital city. The books will then be distributed to one high school and numerous elementary schools in the Mukono and Lugazi Districts. A BIG thank you to all those who helped to make this possible!.
Over 1,000 Pounds of Books Delivered to Schools in Uganda
In August 2010 Teach the Children shipped over 1,000 pounds of books to Uganda. They were delivered to two elementary schools in the Luwero District in early September; the staff and children at the schools were very excited and appreciative. The following is a message we received from one of the schools after they received the books:
“The staff of Ntumwa Primary sends its appreciation to your organization for the great donation that was done to their school. We are therefore looking forward to improving our reading capabilities by using the books that were donated to the school.”
Thank you to all those who donated books, money, and your time and talents to make this possible.

Volunteers
A local church youth group recently spent hours sorting, stamping, and boxing books to prepare them for shipping to schools in Uganda.
Boy scouts, elementary schools, church groups, community organizations, and corporations have organized book drives, collecting more than one hundred boxes of books for Teach the Children. Thank you to all of our volunteers for the time and effort you put into your projects. Children in Uganda will greatly benefit from your work.
